What conditions can animal chiropractic help with?
Chiropractic care can help animals in many ways. Treatments can help improve pain, mobility, neurologic function
Who can do chiropractic on animals?
Both licensed veterinarians and chiropractors who have taken approved programs are able to perform chiropractic on animals. For chiropractors, they must take a program approved by either the AVCA or IVCA. These practitioners carry malpractice insurance if any adverse affects of a treatment occur
Is animal chiropractic safe for all horses and dogs?
Chiropractic treatments may be safe for an animal of any breed and age. It is important, however, that your animal is concurrently undergoing care with a veterinarian that can screen and diagnose any conditions that may contraindicate chiropractic treatment on a specific area
If your animal has suffered a traumatic injury, illness, or change in health status, they will need to be seen by a veterinarian prior to being seen by myself for that condition
Do I need a referral from a veterinarian?
Although a referral from your veterinarian is not necessary, concurrent care is required. In Alberta, your vet must be made aware that you are seeking alternative chiropractic care. Veterinarian medicine has exclusive jurisdiction over the care and treatment of animals. In all circumstances, chiropractors may only treat animals in consultation with or with a written directive from a member of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association
What should I expect during a chiropractic session?
Sessions include a comprehensive history, physical assessment, and plan of care followed by a treatment as warranted
During a treatment, it is possible that your animal may have some reactions. They may twitch, look at the area, make a noise, grimace, nip or possibly bite. These are all common reactions that may show your animal is in discomfort or has something going on that may need to be treated. Once we find the potential area(s) of concern, we can help treat and correct the dysfunctions
How do I prepare my animal for a chiropractic appointment?
It is important to have your animals caught and haltered/leashed prior to the appointment. Ideally, your animal is also calm, fed, and hydrated
